LA Times and OC Register: Disney spends $1 billion on California Adventure expansion during recession

Disney released further details on its $1 billion expansion of the California Adventure theme park.

According to an OC Register article, “the $1 billion expansion of the underperforming California Adventure will have the aura of the 1920s, the period when Walt Disney arrived in the state to begin his career.” The expansion will also include a Little Mermaid ride, Cars Land, Silly Symphony Swings, and a gigantic Mickey Mouse face will replace the sunshine face currently on the Ferris wheel.

The LA Times states: “Disney’s sizable investment, to be spent through 2012, comes atop the $1 billion the entertainment giant committed to build the park, which opened in 2001, and $100 million more spent on new attractions.”
